4 workers die while cleaning septic tank in Surat, toxic fumes suspected
A meeting of Trinamool Congress councillors of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, scheduled to be held on Sunday, was postponed following party chief Mamata Banerjee’s planned visit to Delhi. The meeting was scheduled to take place at the party headquarters near the EM Bypass at 4 p.m. and was expected to be attended by all councillors of the civic body.
According to party sources, the meeting had been convened to discuss developments within the Kolkata Municipal Corporation following the resignation of former mayor Firhad Hakim. The programme was altered after Banerjee’s schedule for a Delhi visit was finalised.
Sources indicated that Banerjee is expected to attend a meeting of opposition alliance leaders in Delhi on Monday. Her absence from the scheduled councillors’ gathering led to the postponement of the meeting, with discussions on several organisational and civic matters being deferred.
The meeting was expected to focus on the future political leadership of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, the administrative and political roadmap following Hakim’s resignation, and the future structure and functioning of the civic board. Party sources also indicated that there had been uncertainty surrounding the meeting amid reports of dissatisfaction among sections of councillors and questions regarding attendance.
